Test Driving the Clipstone shop - delivering a little Fitzrovian magic to your door

clipstone restaurant at home delivery service reviewOur selection of mains, sides and snacks from Clipstone.

So what's Clipstone's delivery offering about?

Following in the footsteps of their sister restaurant, Quality Chop House, Fitzrovia restaurant Clipstone has slid into the groceries and ready meals market while restaurants remain unable to open. They're now selling everything from fresh burrata and those Torres black truffle crisps that we can't seem to stop eating, through to pies, salads and full-blown date-night packages.

Do the dishes come ready to eat?

A lot of it does - from our selection only the main course needed putting in an oven and the anchovy cream was recommended to be warmed up in a saucepan first.

Here's what we tried from chef Stuart Andrew's enticing menu:

clipstone restaurant at home delivery service reviewAubergine, Garlic & Miso Hummus - next level hummus (£4.50)

clipstone restaurant at home delivery service reviewRadishes & Anchovy Cream (£8) - what's better than fresh, crunchy radishes? Well dipping them into this umami-packed cream certainly elevates them

clipstone restaurant at home delivery service reviewDexter Beef, Potato & Black Truffle Pithivier (£32 for two) - this is the dish that's created quite the stir on Instagram. There's a layer of potato dauphinoise topped with slow-cooked Dexter beef and black truffle all in a puff pastry case. It also comes with the most intense truffly jus. SO good.

What about vegetarians?

There's plenty to order - including the hummus mentioned above. We particularly liked our pot of Clipstone spiced nuts (£5) which are "roasted, seasoned and sweetened with a bit of honey before finished off with some seaweed sprinkle and puffed rice". They're every bit as moreish as they sound.

clipstone restaurant at home delivery service reviewThis dish of Freekeh, Miso-Roasted Carrots, Cashew Nuts & Herbs (£6) was also a revelation - the carrots roasted into sweet submission and given texture with the freekah and cashews.

And for dessert?

Options on the launch menu included a bag of freshly-baked financiers and a slice of strawberry and chocolate crostata. But we opted for:

clipstone restaurant at home delivery service reviewLemon Meringue Biscuit Pot - So creamy! So lemony! A lovely little pot of dessert goodness (£6).

What about drink?

We didn't try any of their wines, but as owner Will Lander has put the list together you know it's going to be a good one. The list has been chosen to go with chef Stuart's dishes and prices start at £17 for a Kiwi Sauvignon and go right up to £170 for a 2009 Emidio Pepe Trebbiano d'Abruzzo.

Overall thoughts:

We had pretty high expectations of the Clipstone delivery service and it's probably not news to you that they were more than met. This is just the kind of food you want at home but wouldn't want the bother of making yourself. Very highly recommended.
