In the run-up to this year's Cinco de Mayo, while many restaurants are still waiting to open one Islington restaurant has put together a party kit that's easy to knock up at home. James Cochran's 12:51 has teamed up with tequila company Jose Cuervo for an Around the Cluck X Jose Cuervo Cinco de Mayo at-home kit and we were invited to give it a go.
Intriguingly, the fried chicken was all done in the restaurant and all that has to be done is to heat it up at home. No deep fat fryers needed here, so this gets things on the table significantly quicker. It turns out that's a pretty clever way to send out an easy fried chicken dinner kit. Once it had arrived, the whole thing took just ten minutes in a hot oven and you have two crispy burgers and a bunch of wings ready to go.
The kit can be ordered for between two and six people. There are two Cinco de Mayo burgers, Fiesta Wings and two matched margaritas. Cinco de Mayo burgers are a riot of flavour: a buttermilk fried chicken burger with Sauce Shop Habanero Hot sauce, burnt green tomato relish, sour cream, coriander slaw and tortilla chips.
Et voila - the final product. Fiesta wings which are buttermilk-brined and marinated in Sauce Shop Smoky Chipotle BBQ rub and topped with Sauce Shop Chipotle Mayo, pickled red onions, roasted coconut and coriander. Add to that two buttermilk fried chicken burgers with Sauce Shop Habanero Hot sauce, burnt green tomato relish, sour cream, coriander slaw and tortilla chips and you have a pretty great feast.
The set also includes a choice of Margaritas. The Twisted Piña has Jose Cuervo Especial Silver Tequila, pressed pineapple juice, coriander, jalapeño and agave nectar. Then there's a Sandía Margarita made with Jose Cuervo Especial Reposado Tequila with watermelon and apple juice and fresh mint.
For next weekend's celebrations, it's a very handy way to get the party to come to you.
