It's been twenty years since Brindisa first began importing the best of Spanish food and drink to London. Now, in addition to their Borough Market stall they have three Tapas restaurants, one of which - Casa Brindisa in South Ken - plays host to a series of Supper Club and Masterclass tasting evenings.
Each event focuses on a different area of Spanish food and wine and Hot Dinners was invited to attend an evening dedicated to Catalan goats cheese.
Our host for the evening was Martin Letall – who’s been with Brindisa for over a decade and previously worked with Neals Yard. So it can be safely assumed that what he doesn't know about Spanish cheese isn't worth writing about.
The evening began with a glass of Olaroso abocado sherry (so fabulously sweet and sticky it made us want to lick the glass) and then we were presented with a cheeseboard featuring five goats cheese, accompanied by a glass of Albarino. Martin talked us through the cheeses – our personal favourite was Monte Enebro from the Tietar valley – and then we launched into a series of seven large plates – including a fabulous baked tomato with Mahon cheese and Mato cheese mousse served with honey biscuits and a salmon and goats cheese tian.
The whole evening costs £37.50 – which we think is quite a bargain for the amount of food and drink you get (the waiters aren't shy on refilling glasses) not to mention leaving knowing a little bit more about Spanish food than you knew when you arrived.
