What should we know about The Avocado Show?
As you can imagine from the name, avocados play a big role here. The Avacado Show was originally set up in Amsterdam where it became a huge hit with queues around the block. A lot of that excitement was down to the very insta-friendly dishes that they've come up with using avocados and that's the gist of what they've brought to London. The restaurant has popped up in London before, but this is their first permanent restaurant in town.
Where is it?
It's less than a five-minute walk from Oxford Circus. Just head down Princes Street from Regent Street and you'll find it there on your right. Look out for the big pink bench out front (which is a feature of the original restaurant too).
So - is it really all-avocado?
Almost - there are a couple of non-avo dishes like their sweet potato fries or the oreo dessert - but generally, all the other dishes have some element of avocado in them, be it actual sliced avocado or guacamole. There are eggs and avocado, avocado on toast, avocado on pancakes, avocado salads, avocado poke bowls, avocado burgers and yes - avocado desserts and drinks.
Here's a taste of what we had on a preview visit:
Anything else worth pointing out?
If you're after a couple of dishes that are particularly pretty - the Avo Garden (avocado half-filled with hummus and served with pita sticks - £6.95) is certainly worth a look, as is the Mango Tango toast which comes with an avocado made to look like a rose on top of it.
And you mentioned avocado drinks..?
Yes, the avocado even makes it into the cocktails. They do have their own avocado-free homemade iced teas and lemonades, but if you're all-in on the avocado, you'll be wanting to head to the cocktails section. The avo drinks include an Avo Rita or The Avo Bellini (both £11.50, including avocado marmalade), The Guaca Mary which adds guacamole in the mix and this...
Overall thoughts
While there's definitely a gimmick here - it's one that's done with aplomb. With the exception of the burger, we really liked everything we had - the poke bowl being a clear winner. You may not do what we did and work your way through as much avocado as possible (it does get a bit much after a while) - but it's well placed for popping in for a quick avo-snack while doing your Christmas shopping.
