NYC days 4 & 5: Crosby Street Hotel brunch, Korean fried chicken, New York bars and the BBQ Fest. By the fourth day of our trip, it was rapidly becoming clear that our planned restaurant and bar itinerary was - how shall we put it - ever so slightly ambitious. Turns out we couldn't eat three square meals a day and still feel perky, so we decided to chill out a bit.

Weekend brunch is a New York tradition, but British hoteliers Tim and Kit Kemp (of Charlotte Street and Soho hotels fame) have ma…

If you've got £60 to spare, you might want to get on the blower to Selfridges and book yourself on a pretty special dinner coming up with Angela Hartnett next month. Hartnett will be cooking for one night only at Mark Hix's restaurant in the department store.

Guests will be able to talk food with both chefs whilst enjoying a canape reception and then sit down to a three course Italian meal with a…

NYC day 3 - nouveau Southern cuisine in Brooklyn and more

On day 3 of our New York trip we’ve established a pattern, go out, find somewhere lovely to eat, head back to the hotel to recover and then go out and do it all again.

Today we spared ourselves a large breakfast, just picking up muffins and a decent iced latte at Ground Support cafe on West Broadway, in preparation for our lunch at Eleven Madison Park, Daniel Humm's restaurant which recently won…

NYC day 2 - momofuku duck lunch and foie gras dumplings at Annisa

Another day in New York - another heatwave.  As temperatures scaled to record levels, we sought the respite (and air-conditioning) of some top NYC places on the second day of our visit.

The day got off to a cracking start with breakfast at midtown spot Tablespoon (aka "tbsp"). This upscale catering company recently opened its own cafe and delivery service next door to the shop where it sell…

NYC day 1 - Big Gay Ice Cream and unyielding heat.

Hot Dinners has jetted off to New York for a few days to eat and shop our way through the city that never sleeps.

The trip got off to a pretty great start when the lovely people at BA upgraded us to Club Class which gave us the opportunity to obsess about food from the moment we left the tarmac at Heathrow. Trying (and failing) to look like we always travel this way, we were interested to try th…

Win dinner for two at RIBA after the Design Bites talk

It's all very well putting great food on the plate, but if the place you're eating in looks like a dog's dinner, then there's no question that it detracts from the joy of eating out. Good restaurant design is what the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards aims to recognise. As voting for this year's awards comes to a close, the organisers have teamed up with the Royal Institute of British Architects…

  • Get on the phone to one of the restaurants from our Best alfresco restaurants in London piece. Be the…

Polpo, St John and Meat Wagon join forces for Soho Food Feast

As anyone with a school-age child will be able to tell you, raising funds for a school is all down to the calibre of people you can persuade to sit on the event committee. So we're pretty impressed with the names down for The Soho Food Feast which is being held later this month to raise money for the Soho Parish Primary School's healthy eating initiative.

The committee members' list reads like a w…

Previously a fully-fledged Spanish restaurant, it will now be renamed Tapas Brindisa Soho. The revamped restaurant will mimic its London sister site in both name and style shifting back towards small plates - something that's clearly the…

Playboy Club opens in London with a vintage feel

Hot Dinners braved the placard-wielding demonstrators to try out The Playboy Club in Mayfair last night. Truth be told, once inside, you'd see more flesh on any episode of The Only Way Is Essex than inside the latest addition to Hugh Hefner's empire.

With more women than men in attendance at the press opening, the look was very Mad Men and the Bunnies themselves had a certain retro vibe going on.…
