William Curley opens Chocolate Box pop-up at St Martin's Lane Hotel

curleyThere was no better time than the middle of Chocolate Week to open a new store dedicated to all things cocoa so chocolatier William Curley was looking rather pleased with himself when Hot Dinners caught up with him last week at the opening of his pop-up shop at the St Martin's Lane hotel.

The shop itself has its own entrance on St Martin's Lane and will be open from now until New Year's Eve. "Opening a pop-up shop this time of the year seemed a no-brainer," Curley told us. "It's Chocolate Week then there's Halloween and Christmas. it's nice to bring a bit of William Curley to this part of London."

"We're hoping people will pop in for a drink and then try a cake or a brownie." If you're thinking of heading along, we can only urge you to try the heavenly Muscovado Caramel for which Curley won Best Overall Filled Chocolate at this year's Academy of Chocolate awards.

The chocolatier will be using the new shop to showcase a few new interesting products: "We're going to be doing a lot more of the nostalgia range. At the moment we have two or three things such as the Bounty and the Jaffa Cake, we're also going big on Hot Chocolate with a few different varieties. I'd love to do a Curley Wurly [sic] for obvious reasons. For years people have taken the mick out of my name so it would nice to get a bit of revenge and we'd like to do things walnut whirls and other great classics people have nostalgic memories about."

Just in case he was in danger of taking it easier, Curley is also going to be launching William Curley's afternoon tea at The Halcon hotel. "That'll be in a couple of weeks time so that's quite exciting. I'm stretching myself now - so I'm not trying to have more than three or four outlets."

He may be all about chocolate, but we wanted to know where he's eaten out in London recently that he rated: "Nuno Mendes at Viajante was probably the best meal out I've had in quite a long time. Jason Atherton at Pollen Street Social - what a talented cook, that's a great restaurant. And I like the original Galvin on Baker Street. I worked with Pierre Koffmann for many years when I was younger, and I had lunch there about a month ago and it was just fantastic - the food was real, honest, cooked to perfection - hard to beat it."

William Curley's Chocolate Box at the St Martin's Lane hotel is open until New Year's Eve.
