You may have encountered the talents of When Mac Met Cheese at various pop-ups and market stalls around town over the past few years. Now they're stepping things up a notch with a three month residency in Bayswater. They're billing it as "the first mac and cheese (and cocktail!) restaurant in London is about to open its doors.
They've got the ex sous chef at the Ivy joining them as head chef. The brief menu stars with macancinis - mac and cheese balls with either truffle & wild mushroom or jalapenos and cheddar (2 for £4) and follows that with three types of Mac and cheese - classic, Carlos the Cactus - featuring sun blushed plum tomatoes and parmesan among other ingredients - and a Cheese Green Afro made with vintage stilton, mozzarella and broccoli (all £6). You can add lardons or 4 mini pork and meatballs to that for £1.50 more. Desserts are simply deep fried oreos (4 for £3) - need we say more?
There's a short cocktail list, a choice of just white or red wine and a few craft beers to wash that down with.
When Mac Met Cheese will be at 43-45 Porchester Road, Bayswater, W2 5DP from 22 March to 5 June. Opening hours are Wednesday – Friday 6pm –till late, Saturday 12-12pm, Sunday 12-5pm. For more info follow them on Twitter @MacMetCheese
