Just like royal kisses, you wait ages for the people behind Purl bar to open something new and then two come along at once.
Following hard on the heels of the opening of Worship Street Whistling Shop, the people behind Purl in Marylebone are opening a third bar in King's Cross. VOC, which will open in Regents Quarter in May, will apparently be a modern interpretation of a 17th century Punch House inspired by the Dutch East India Company founded in 1602. The main feature of the bar will be four casks suspended from the ceiling containing a selection of barrel aged punches, cocktails and the VOC house blended and aged spiced rum.
There'll also be a huge back bar containing a selection of Dutch Genevers, central and south American rums and coconut sap produced Arracks from Asia
We're not sure what the great fascination with drinks of ye olden tymes is, but VOC will be the second bar to open in the King's Cross area in May specialising in punches. The bar at Marcus Wareing's restaurant, The Gilbert Scott, will also feature afternoon punchbowls.
VOC opens at 2 Varnishers Yard, Regents Quarter, London, N1 on 6 May 2011.
