[Updated 3 February 2012] The Independent critic Tracey McLeod called their city spot 'without doubt the best vegetarian restaurant I've been to in this country'. Now the people behind Vanilla Black are opening a new place on Sicilian Avenue called Orchard.
Due to open in late 2011/early 2012, the new restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and early dinners. There'll also be a takeaway as well as a grocery section. Every new place in London needs something new to talk about and we rather like their idea of being able to buy unusual seasonal ingredients selected by the restaurant’s forager, as well as eggs, heritage potatoes, butter and freshly baked bread.
Dishes on the menu Hot Dinners has seen range from breakfast items such as potato scones, baked tomatoes and homemade brown sauce and toasted sour dough, flat field mushrooms and home baked beans while the daily specials might include English feta and herb salad, granary croutons and scrumpy vinaigrette or purple sprouting broccoli, English mustard dumplings and ale reduction. Desserts include a mouthwatering ginger parkin and warm golden syrup as well as an Earl Grey tea and fruit loaf.
"Lunching Londoners have their pick of paninis, sushi and noodles but there is room in the market for an eat-in/takeaway deli offering great British food," says owner Andrew Dargue. "By serving traditional fare as well as encouraging customers to experiment at home with foraged foods, we want to remind people how great British ingredients and dishes can be."
Orchard opens on Thursday 9 February 2012 with a soft launch offer of 25% off food (excludes drinks and grocery products) from 12pm on Thursday 9th through to Wednesday 15th February 2012.
