US burger chain Five Guys to open across the UK, starting with Covent Garden

US burger chain Five Guys to open across the UK, starting with Covent GardenThe burger craze seems to be never ending - if anything, it seems to have kicked up a notch in the last few months with more restaurants getting in on the action. The latest to descend on Covent Garden (with a follow-up planned for Islington soon after) is much-loved US burger chain Five Guys.

We caught up with Molly Catalano from Five Guys to find out more. She told us that Five Guys will be serving the same menu as the US, so that should include their hamburger, cheeseburger and bacon burger as well as the "little" versions. They'll also be serving beer in the UK restaurants and something unique to the UK. In addition to a large range of toppings which are completely free (although it'll cost to add bacon and cheese).which include BBQ sauce, onions mushrooms, mayo and more, they'll have the British only added option of HP Sauce.

They'll be sourcing ingredients locally, with potatoes from the UK - "We feel the importance is the type of climate where the potatoes are grown and England meets those requirements" - and meat for the burgers will be from Ireland and will be Rolled Stamped Prime Fresh Beef with specifications very similar to the meat used in the US. Finally, rounding off the menu will be be dogs and sandwiches too. Price-wise, the regular hamburger (which has two patties) will be £6.75 while the little Hamburger will be £4.75  Fries will range from £2.75 to £5.00 (and the large size is designed to share).

We asked if the Murrells - the family behind Five Guys had been over to check things out and it seems they've been doing their research. "The Murrell family has been over many times over the course of the last year or so," she told us. "Most of their visits were focused on testing product to make sure we could find sources that fit our standards, but they were able to sample a few burgers in London and they are excited about the burger scene.

Although there aren’t as many burger outlets in London as there are in the US, we feel that there seems to be a great demand for high quality burgers, we are excited to join the UK based companies in meeting this demand."

As soon as we know more about any Five Guys new locations - we'll add them to our Coming Soon page.

If you want to be first in the queue, Five Guys is opening on 1 Longacre, Covent Garden on July 4 at 11am. Follow them on twitter at @fiveguysuk.
