Thomas Keller planning London pop-up restaurant at Harrods

keller2Update: Keller has now confirmed the pop-up which will be at Harrods for ten days from 1 October 2011. The French Laundry at Harrods will offer a £250 nine-course meal for lunch and dinner. There will be space for 70 diners at each sitting. Booking opens on 1 September. More details here.

The original story from January:

If you thought the Pierre Koffmann at Selfridges pop-up was a hard ticket to get, prepare yourself for what could be one of the restaurant events of the year as uber American chef Thomas Keller reveals plans to come to London for 10 days at Harrods.

Keller who runs the three-Michelin star restaurants French Laundry in California and Per Se in New York (the only chef in America to have two restaurants simulatenously holding that honour) told trade title Big Hospitality; 'We’re trying to do a promotion with Harrods so that would be kind of fun. The UK and certainly London has always been something that's been available to me but I just haven't taken the opportunity yet.'

As to whether he'll emulate Koffmann's run at the Selfridges, which began as a two-week pop-up and was then extended for months, Keller said; 'Even if it does prove popular I think 10 days is enough for us.'

There's no word yet as to when the pop-up will be and a spokesperson for Harrods told Hot Dinners this morning; 'We are exploring a number of exciting opportunities and promotions for Harrods restaurants this year but have no confirmed plans with Thomas Keller at this stage.' But if Keller is already talking to the press about it, we're feeling positive!
