The annual Sunday Times 100 Top Restaurants is out today and, from a London perspective, the news is that it's the first list where fewer than half (47) are London establishments. The list, drawn up in partnership with Hardens, is an interesting one - The Ledbury is London's highest entry at 4 while the only other London restaurant to merit a top 10 place is Rasoi in Chelsea.
Presumably it reflects an older, wealthier readership - the list is based on 70,000 reviews from more than 6,000 consumers - with Mayfair and Knightsbridge being the London areas with the most restaurants on the list. We haven't seen the whole list, but East London probably doesn't get much of a mention.
Modernist Restaurant Fraiche in Cheshire, which Marina O'Loughlin loved last year, nabbed the top slot.
The six new entries from these here parts are:
- Fera at Claridge's (25)
- Hedone (30)
- Marianne (48)
- Galvin La Chapelle (90)
- The Clove Club (92)
- Tamarind (93)
And the top 20 (you can see the full list here unhelpfully only viewable in map form) are as follows:
- 1 Restaurant Fraiche
- 2 Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons
- 3 L’Enclume
- 4 The Ledbury
