Big news for the South Bank today as veteran restaurateur Terence Conran unveiled plans to open his second Albion restaurant there this summer.
The rather brutally titled Albion NEO Bankside is so called because it'll be part of a new residential development beside the Tate Modern, which has been designed by Richard Rogers. As it's so close to Borough and Maltby markets it's expected that many of the traders there - such as Wright Bros and Kernel will be suppliers.
As with Albion Shoreditch, the South Bank spot will feature a all day British café and food store serving up the same sort of fare as the original site - All Day Breakfast, Fish and Chips as well as Shepherd's Pie and Irish Stew. There'll be 95 covers inside with a further 45 on a heated outside terrace.
At the entrance there'll be a small shop and food market selling a variety of British produce, from store cupboard staples to organic meats and fine poultry as well as freshly baked goods.
The wine list has been worked on with Julia Stafford at Wine Pantry (the only wine retailer to exclusively sell English wines) to showcase the UK’s best homegrown bottles.
As you'd expect from anything Conran works on, the staff all have plenty of experience. Manager Peter Farrell has worked at Arbutus, Wild Honey and Bumpkin while chef Brian Partridge has worked at The Greenhouse before moving to County Limerick to open his own traditional Irish restaurant.
Albion NEO Bankside will open in July at NEO Bankside, Pavilion B, Holland Street, LONDON SE1 9FU. Telephone: 020 7827 4343 or follow them @albioncafes
