We've long been fans of Street Kitchen, the gourmet food truck collaboration between Mark Jankel and Jun Tanaka. The recent stint in the city has been a huge success, so the boys are branching out to Battersea.
They've taken up shop at "testbed 1", a dairy warehouse in Battersea, and unveiled The Hatch - a static version of Street Kitchen for South Londoners. Decked out with a stainless steel exterior, similar to the Street Kitchen's Airstream truck, The Hatch will be serving up the same menu that the City folk are getting to the residents of Battersea (and anyone working nearby).
So that currently means dishes like slow roast pork with celeriac puree, roasted carrots, pickled red cabbage, mustard dressing and herb breadcrumbs or Hot smoked salmon with roasted beetroot, mustard leaves, warm rosemary crushed potatoes and horseradish dressing. All the dishes are between £5.50 and £7.50.
If you're after a gourmet style lunch, served quickly and without fuss, we'd definitely recommend checking it out. It's currently open 12-2 Monday - Friday and dinner times will also be announced soon. The original Street Kitchen is still doing the rounds in the City.
The Hatch is at 33 Parkgate Road, Battersea, SW11 4NP. You can find out more at the Street Kitchen website.
