London may be all about street truck burgers and independents like Lucky Chip and MEATLiquor, but it seems as though the larger burger chains also want to get in on the action. Just this week we've seen two stories that show that the big boys are trying to win fans with more upmarket/oddball burger offerings.
The first story comes from France where to tie in with the launch of the re-release of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in 3D, European chain Quick is launching three Star Wars-tie in burgers. You can choose from the Dark Vador burger on a inky black bun (apparently that's how it's spelt in France - we initially thought they just hadn't checked the spelling with Lucasfilm) or the more regular-looking Dark burger or Jedi burger.
Also on the burger spin-off story, over in Tokyo, US chain Wendy's is putting on a Foie Gras Rossini burger for sale at 1,280 yen ($16). This is a standard burger that's going to be topped with truffles and goose-liver pâté. It's currently being sold in Tokyo and is going to be rolled out 100 Wendy’s restaurants across the country.
It doesn't look as though anything like this is planned for London at the moment, but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, it's back to the queue outside MEATLiquor for us.
