Can you believe that Selfridges' iconic Brass Rail restaurant has beens serving salt beef for almost 50 years? The store restaurant celebrates its 50th birthday next year and reopens tomorrow after a pre-birthday makeover.
While the salt beef remains the same, there are a number of new things to be had - not least their first ever breakfast menu including dishes such as crisp salt beef hash, or smoked salmon served with a soft boiled Buford Brown Egg, horseradish, sour cream and chives, capers, watercress and bread. See the full menu below.
There's also a new all-day Bialy roll - a huge pulled hot salt beef sandwich with melted Swiss cheese, gherkin, gem lettuce and exclusive Brass Rail relish. More innovation includes a new marbled caraway bread on offer for the sandwiches and bagels are being sourced from a "small Jewish Artisan baker" which we're presuming relates to the company's size and not the baker's stature.
Alongside the salt beef bar will be a new coffee space featuring a Nicaraguan blend exclusive to Selfridges. It's also going to be the UK's first permanent MOD bar exclusively dedicated to coffee. If, like us, you aren't a coffee nerd, that means it's part of a cool coffee delivery service developed in the states.
The Brass Rail reopens 29 August 2015 at Selfridges, 400 Oxford Street, London W1A 1AB
