Seafood and scotch eggs at The Oyster Shed by Cannon Street

We're partial to both oysters and scotch eggs, so the menu at the soon-to-open The Oyster Shed in the City is calling to us siren-style. Situated on Angel Lane, just by Cannon St station, this new gastropub from Geronimo Inns will serve up seafood, stout, whiskies and cocktails with views over the Thames.

Ed Turner from Geronimo has been raving about his company's new spot, saying: "This is a dream pub for us. Delicious views, delightful neighbours and a blank canvas in which we’re creating a wonderful food-pub. Wherever you sit you’ll be able to enjoy a fine pint, a glass of wine over a plate of good food with excellent views of the river."

Food-wise, there'll be bar snacks in the form of Jersey rock oysters, salt cod fritters and warm quail scotch eggs. Heartier appetites can plump for a range of Bar Boards - the Grocer's Board at £10.50 includes cheese straws, sweet corn fritters, mini hot cheese toasties and garlic mushrooms. Mains range from steak and oyster pie to a rare breed burger and there's Geronimo's own cheese for afters which is made in Cornwall and washed in Young’s bitter.

There's room for 60 sitting/250 standing downstairs, 30 seated/120 standing on the mezzanine level and 20 seated in the private dining room which has great views over the river.

The Oyster Shed opens at 1 Angel Lane, EC4 on 23 January 2012.
