It's a busy old year for Polpo owner Russell Norman who's just announced today details of his next restaurant. Da Polpo will open on 6 Maiden Lane (close to Rules) in Covent Garden on 2nd June. It's Norman's (and partner Richard Beatty's) third restaurant opening in under 12 months. The name 'translates roughly as Polpo's gaff' Russell tweeted today.
So what can we expect from the latest addition to Russell's widlly successful empire? Well, it will build on the dishes you'll know from Polpo and Polpetto, whilst introducing a special meatball section on the menu as well as more pizzettas. In the kitchen will be Polpo's executive chef Tom Oldroyd, and there'll be space for 70 diners as well as two counters to eat at. Unlike Polpo and Polpetto though, da Polpo will be open all day. Does this herald the introduction of a Russell Norman breakfast offering? We're hopeful.
The arrival of da Polpo will be another reason to head for Covent Garden as one of the most exciting dining areas in London. 'We want da Polpo to be a refreshing dining offer in an area that is undergoing something of a revival,' confirms Russell.
