According to the press blurb, WSWS will be 'a twenty-first century update of the Victorian gin palace concept originally found in London in the 1820’s'.
There will be two private dining areas and we particularly like the sound of the one that's modelled on a traditional eighteenth century dram shop, complete with a sawdust floor and period gin bottles. The bar will also offer drinkers the chance to book a cocktail masterclass which will lead them on a sensory cocktail voyage, experiencing sounds, sights and scents to replicate the historical story of the drinks. As you'd expect, the cocktails sound incredible - you can take a gander at the Worship Street cocktail list here.
On the food front, the bar has taken on the expertise of the Oyster Boys, from Scottish foodies Temple and Shian who you may have spotted with their wandering kilted oyster purveyors at London parties. They'll be offering a full lunch menu with such delights as mock turtle soup and rabbit hot pot with tapas style dishes for the evening, including mini pork pies, jellied smoked eel and potted shrimps. There will also be afternoon tea and cakes in-between. On Sundays you can order one of two feasts - a Suckling Pig feast or the Poultry feast including duck, geese, poussin and quail. We're intrigued by the Mussel Men's oyster feast featuring crumbed oysters, served on a seabed with chlorophyll air and jasmine-scented aroma.
The Worship Street Whistling Shop opens on Thursday 28th April 2010 at 63 Worship Street, London EC2 and will be open then from Monday-Saturday.
