Given how popular they are in China, it's actually a little surprising that London doesn't have more places serving up jian bing. Essentially crispy skin crepes, stuffed with savoury fillings, they're folded and wrapped and designed to be eaten on the go. A quick google showed that there's a hatch on Newport Street doing them, but when Pleasant Lady Jian Bing Trading Stall opens on Greek Street today it doesn't appear to have too much in the way of competition.
The Soho hatch is the brainchild of Alex Peffly and Z He, Co-Founders of Bun House and Tea Room. They'll be serving up jian bing freshly made to order, topped with a fried egg and fresh vegetables and layered with a fiery tomato sauce.
The jian bing here (£6) will come with a choice of Iberico Char Siu Pork (+ £1.80), Cumin spiced Lamb (+£1) or Grilled Miso Chicken (+ £1), with house-made soy milk (£2.50) and softs completing the menu.
