We admit it - the thrill of the new high rise bars and restaurants at The Shard means we've neglected other London sky high spots. So it was nice to pop along this week to Paramount at the top of Centre Point and get a more central perspective on the city.
We were there for the first of a new series of Englishmen Abroad wine dinners at Paramount, showcasing a range of vintages from esteemed English winemakers.
Our night was with Billecart-Salmon and their Master of Wine John Atkinson (who also has an English vineyard). John talked us through the champagne-making process while a three course dinner was served, paired with four of their champagnes - Rose Non Vintage, 2006 Extra Brut, Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, Cuvee Sous Bois and Blanc de Blancs Vintage 2004.
There are three more such dinners planned for this year:
- 22 October 2014 - Wine from Domaine de Chamans
- 20 November 2014 - Wine from Chateau de Bauduc
- 3 December 2014 - Wines from Mischief and Mayhem – Burgundy
Dinner costs £80 per person and are held in their private dining room (with a pretty fine view over London) and each evening begins with a canapé reception. To book email nadia@paramount.uk.net. For more information go to the Paramount website.
