There's a gem of a story in the Metro about a Paddington curry house which has just been done for writing its own fake reviews. Anyone passing by The Connoisseurs Indian Tandoori on Norfolk Place might have been swayed into trying it by the array of good reviews this small, neighbourhood North Indian curry restaurant had on display.
The Connoisseurs featured write-ups and recommendations from everyone from The Times to the Independent - but it seems they pushed their luck by including a plaudit from the Evening Standard's Fay Maschler describing them as 'the best Indian restaurant in London'.
They may have had the best fake write-ups in the business, but it wasn't enough to stop the restaurant from being prosecuted by Wesminster council for misleading customers. 'This was a flagrant act of dishonesty aimed at hoodwinking customers,' Brian Connell of Westminster Council said, after the owner was found guilty and fined £1000.
