The popular concept of small sharing plates (cf tapas and cichetti) is getting an Asian makeover at Kennington pub The Mansion House.
Gap Glam, rather than being a fashionable mode of attire for your year abroad, actually translates as 'beer food'. It's the brainchild of chef head chef Siam Pukaokeaw who has relaunched the South London pub as Oaka at The Mansion House.
Expect to find dishes like Heavenly Beef (fried slices of air-dried beef marinated in palm sugar & coriander), Jammy king prawns (lightly-coated king prawns with chilli jam and pomegranates), crunchy spiced aubergines, soft shell crab and fried mackerel marinated with sake, shoyu & herbs on the menu as well as wraps, sushi and curries.
Chef specials include tamarind duck, Japanese hot pot, buta no kakuni (braised pork belly), grilled spiced lamb cutlets and pad grapraw (chicken or beef fried with basil & chilli served with a traditional Thai-style fried egg) and black cod marinated for three days in miso, grilled & wrapped in hoba leaf.
The award-winning beers come from Peterborough brewery Oakham Ales who'll have award-winning brews JHB, Citra, Inferno and Bishop’s Farewell on tap.
Oaka at The Mansion House opens on 7 March 2013 at 48 Kennington Park Rd, London SE11 4RS.
