That William Shakespeare was a wise old goat. After all he did come up with the line "Tis an ill cook that cannot lick his own fingers." (Yes we can Google Shakespeare food quotes along with the best of them).
From the twelfth night of June,The Montagu restaurant, at the Hyatt Regency on Portman Square is putting on a series of Shakespearean evenings to mark the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth.
The evening begins with “Love’s Labour’s Won” – a cocktail created by The Churchill Bar & Terrace team. Served in a silver tankard and garnished with a guinea fowl feather quill, it's a blend of nettle infused malmsey, Clouded Yellow wheat beer mead and Bushmill’s Irish whisky.
Dinner features a menu of dishes you'd expect to find on an Elizabethan table - urns of soup, cured meats and smoked fish to start, before salt-crusted sea bass, roasted leg of succulent lamb (or for vegetarians a medley of summer vegetables in pastry). For dessert there are spiced honey cakes, fresh berry fools, and boards of cheeses and fruits.
They'll even throw in a bit of drama over dinner with Shakespearian actors popping up to act out dramatic scenes from the bard's finest works.
Midsummer Nights’ Feasts at The Montagu cost £35 per person and are available to book every Thursday evening from 12 June to 31 July 2014 from 7-9.30pm. For reservations email montagu.hrlondon@hyatt.com or call 020 7299 2037
