London's new steak challenge at the Grosvenor

There’s good news for carnivores in the capital with two new steak restaurants opening their doors this year. If you can't wait for Hawskmoor to open its second restaurant, on the corner of Shelton Street and Langley Street in Covent Garden, in September, you can try the first London branch of JW Steakhouse which will be opening at Grosvenor House.

JW’s chef will be Paul Hallett, formerly of the Dorchester Grill and Tom Aikens, and the menu will feature a serious steak challenge in the form of The Tomahawk – a massive 32 ounce, on-the-bone rib eye. It may not be the biggest steak on offer in London - that honour apparently rests with Hawksmoor with a 1.3kg whopper on its menu - but at over 900g it's still a contender. The meat on the menu will be a mixture of USDA Prime Corn Fed Kansas Beef, and Aberdeen Angus.

Once you’ve eaten your fill of red meat, you can finish the injury to your system with a giant twice-baked stuffed potato and bourbon sweet potato mash with a (we kid you not) marshmallow crust. Or go for broke and end the night trying a flight of bourbons at the Steakhouse’s Bourbon Bar. There’s also be an outdoor terrace for alfresco eating as the weather hots up.
