London the worst city to eat out in Europe allegedly

Ye Gods – how is it possible that in summer 2010, a  survey by TripAdvisor could choose London as being the worst place to eat out in Europe? And if that wasn't insulting enough, brace yourself to hear who we beat to win the crap cuisine accolade -  Liverpool and Birmingham. But hey, we’re presumably supposed to be pleased that the 2,963 respondents – including 559 British travellers – gave us a consulation prize by voting us most exciting city. Most exciting, presumably, until you have to eat in which case things go rapidly downhill.

When asked to comment on the findings, Sally Chatterjee, CEO of Visit London, stood up for London’s restaurants, saying ‘Whilst old perceptions remain about British cuisine, they don't reflect the reality which is that London is now home to the best chefs and restaurants on the planet.’

So who’s right? The 2963 numbskulls who marked London’s restaurants down, or respected Michelin-starred chefs such as Alain Ducasse who said we were ‘the most important city in the world for restaurants’? Would be interested to hear what everyone else thinks.
