Hot Dinners were back, after too long an absence, at Galvin at Windows at the top of the Park Lane Hilton last night where we'd been invited to work our way through try the new Prescription cocktails created by their Bar Manager, Boris Ivan.
Billed to treat 'any conditions you may have' the new drinks include Penicillin (Laphroaig 10yo, Monkey 47, ginger, honey, fresh lemon, Lavender bitters) and Chilean Medicine (Pisco Aba, fresh lemon, sugar, fresh lemongrass, Peychaud’s bitters). But our favourite from the new list in last night's taste test was the Football Antidote - a take on the Caiparinha feauring cacaha, fresh lime, sugar, sweet basil and Choya Umeshu plum wine. All cost £16.
What we were particularly keen to try though was another of Boris's new cocktails, the ‘Cooldest Martini’. Inspired by the Russian tradition of leaving casks outside in plummeting winter conditions, he's come up with a way to chill the vodka down to exactly -18˚C. The science bit is that this allows the liquids to densify. It's then moved through ion-charged carbon filters at an extremely slow velocity to take out even the smalllest impurities.
Priced at £20.00 the martini comes in the classic or dirty variety. We tried the classic last night and we'd recommend it, if the price isn't too steep for you.
