On the eve of a trip to New York, what better way to say goodbye to London than a glass of excellent champagne on the banks of the Thames? That's where Hot Dinners found ourselves last night, enjoying the last of the summer sun on the South Bank at the launch of Krug & Krustacean.
This high end pop up is a collaboration between Krug champagne and Beast restaurant. For just a few more days (until this Sunday 7 September) they've carved out a space by the river with two wooden dining pods and some outside seating.
If the weather's clement, you can sit in the sun, sipping some Krug Grande Cuvée, waving at the tourist boats going past. If it gets parky, the benches in the pods are heated and there are plenty of rather nice blankets to wrap up in.
There are two food items on the menu - a leg of king crab with alioi and salad which we're sure is very nice, but with the alternative being king crab club sandwich, neither of us felt inclined to order it. And the club sandwich was honestly, really good. A club sandwich done well is a fine thing indeed, and we can highly recommend this one as one of the best we've had in a while.
Krug & Krustacean is on the South Bank close to Gabriel's Wharf until 7 September. Dining times are: 12pm, 1pm and 2pm for lunch and 6pm, 7pm and 8pm for dinner. It costs £40 for a glass of Krug Grande Cuvée and your choice of crab dish. To book call 0844 371 5050
