Ramen? That's so last week. It's all about the udon with Den specialist udon dish restaurant opening up in King's Cross
Here's what you need to know about Den
Udon is practically a health food - aparently udon's currently storming the charts in Japan because it has fewer calories than ramen, soba or pasta.
Everything will be made in house - from the noodles to their dashi broth. There'll be two dashis (and veggie options) White Dashi (made with bonito flakes, dried seaweed and soy sauce) and Black Dashi (White Dashi mixed with strong soy sauce to produce a richer taste).
In addition to udon there'll be smaller plates too - such as Red Wine Stewed Pork Belly, Crispy Mackerel, Miso-marinated Grilled Salmon and Sizzling Beef Steak.
The Japanese design extends to the loo - they're having one of those electric washlet toilets if that's your thing. It'll seat up to 45 and serve takeaway too.
The Head Chef is Emi Machida - she knows her stuff having held Chef de Partie positions at Koya and Bone Daddies
Den will seat up to 45 covers and take-away will also be available. It'll open at 2 Acton Street, King’s Cross, London, WC1X 9NA from 15th-22nd December with a soft opening offer of 50% off the food bill. Opening hours will be Mon-Sat 11:30-23:00 (closed Sun). They'll be fully open on 2 January 2015. Telephone 020 3632 1069
