In recent years, the biggest food story in London has been all about the humble burger patty, now a new kind of patty is attempting to take them on.
Theresa Roberts is setting up the Jamaica Patty Co in Covent Garden next month and she's hoping that her Caribbean fast food will be a winner with Londoners. Her executive chef Collin Brown has form - his Docklands restaurant was the first to win an AA rosette for Caribbean food.
So what'll be on the menu? There's a variety of soups including a punchy pumpkin soup with a spicy kick, chicken and dumpling and gungo pea. As for the patties themselves, which will be baked in store every day, expect to see jerk chicken, prawn, curried goat and saltfish and ackee.
For the sweet-toothed, there's Tortuga rum cake and banana bread and Devon House ice-cream, reputed to be the best in Jamaica. Drinks include Blue Mountain coffee and freshly squeezed coconut water and soursop juice.
You'll find Jamaica Patty Co at 26 New Row, Covent Garden, WC2N 4LA from mid March 2014.
