Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall helps launch Riverford at the Duke of Cambridge

dukemenuTo Islington last night where a very foodie set had turned up to celebrate the launch of Riverford at the Duke of Cambridge. Hot Dinners spotted St John owner Trevor Gulliver chatting at the bar with wine writer Zeren Wilson and actor Dougie Henshall making a beeline for the beetroot and amaretto cocktails.

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall was on hand to deliver a rousing speech on behalf of Riverford's Guy Watson and the Duke of Cambridge's Geetie Singh whom he dubbed "the Brangelina of the organic food world."

"I have over the last decade or so spent more money on the Riverford website than anyone else in Britain," he admitted. "I'm at that point in life when we've pretty much settled that organic wine is our drug of choice from here on in so that makes Guy our dealer."

The pub, which opens with the new menu today - read our full story here - was decked out for last night's party with all manner of vegetables. And in true 'waste not' form, guests were told to fill their bags with as many cardoons and as much kale as they could carry on their way out.
