House of Wolf bringing experimental dining to Upper Street

house of wolf islingtonA few days ago, the arrival of a new Twitter account for House of Wolf created a bit of a stir with London's foodies wondering what exactly 'experimental dining' in Islington would entail. Well now we can reveal all.

House of Wolf will be taking over the building formerly occuped by Albert and Pearl (and before them the Medicine Bar) on Upper Street. It's a lovely old listed building and a former music hall, which we hadn't realised, and the new owners are going to be making much of the building's heritage.

The ground floor Music Hall bar will see vaudeville cabaret and literary salons as part of its entertainment roster. Upstairs the Apothecary bar will have gas lamp lighting and serve up cocktails combining trad Victorian recipes with modern cutting-edge techniques. A further floor up will be the dining areas - the Parlour with a dumb-waiter cum steam-punk conveyor belt, an Attic dining room and a Wolf Den bar.

As for food, they'll be running a series of monthly chef residencies 'showcasing some of the UK's most exciting chefs and culinary artists'. Dining will take place in the Attic Room and Parlour, and you can also book the Parlour for private dining.

The people behind it are Damian Frizzell and Jennifer Anderson-Mann who run two venues in Brighton, The Haunt and Madame Geisha. They're bringing in London expertise from Matthew Fleming who was Bar Manager at Shoreditch House and General Manager at Proud and Bar Manager Stephen Quainton who was at Soho House. They're joined by Alexa Perrin, founder of the Experimental Food Society and Emma Sutton who'll run events and parties.

House of Wolf opens at 181 Upper Street, London N1 1RQ on 5 October. It'll be open from 6pm Monday to Friday and from midday at weekends and will close at 4am every night.
