Updated 1/12/14 with soft launch details.
Is there room in East London for more cue? Seems so as HOTBOX prepares to open there this winter.
What you need to know about HOTBOX
It's the first permanent spot for a popular street food company: You may have caught HOTBOX at one of their residencies at Street Feast’s Dalston Yard, Hawker House and Battersea Power Station, as well as pop-ups at Wireless and Field Day festivals.
Expect to see a lot of meat on the menu: Popular items will be USDA Prime beef short ribs, jalapeno hot link sausage sandwiches and wagyu beef brisket rolls. It heralds a more international approach to BBQ: Head Chef and Pitmaster Lewis Spencer has created an menu with influences beyond the Deep South which is while you'll find wagyu short rib tacos, and smoked chinese spiced duck pancakes, fish glazed pork belly masa tacos, slow smoked char siu pork buns and more on the menu.
Make sure you have room for sides: there'll be smoked mac n’cheese, bone marrow gravy mash, and smoked Japanese mushrooms. And at the weekends there'll be brunch items such as smoked meat omelette, punchy huevos rancheros and poached eggs on barbecue hashcakes.
There's going to be a basement bar too: Downstairs you'll find '46 & Mercy’ with cocktails including Rye Me To The Moon (rye whiskey Amontillado Sherry, Bay Leaf syrup, Abbots Bitters) and Blessed Thistle (Vodka, Pork-Fat and thyme washed aromatized wine and lemon).
HOTBOX opens 4 December at 46 Commercial Street, London E1 6LT. They're having a soft launch with 50% off food until 8 December. To book, email hello@hotboxlondon.com.
