Selfridges woos Hix, Roux Jnr postpones plus new openings

It seems to be a particularly busy time for restaurant openings at the moment, and one man is in more demand than anyone.  After the extremely successful opening of Hix in Soho, Mark Hix isn't resting on his laurels.  This week, he announced plans to take over the Gallery Restaurant and Champagne Bar in Selfridges, which will re-open as the Hix Restaurant and Champagne Bar in March 2010.  The space will be designed by Terence Conran's team, will feature a host of modern art and will be running all day long from 9.30am.  We'll be catching up with Hix himself soon, and will get some more details for you on the new opening.

Hot Dinners also learned this week that Michel Roux Jnr's restaurant, Roux at Parliament Square, is now due to open in early 2010 with Roux 2008 scholarship winner Daniel Cox as the head chef. That's a delay of a few months on what was expected to have been another high-profile opening this Autumn.

Finally, news of another pop-up venture came out this week, this time at the Royal Academy, with Sketch opening a cafe for two months from 3rd December, which will feature a creperie stand, an oyster bar and furniture made out of cardboard.

But if that all sounds like too long to wait, then you'll be pleased to know that the Galvin brothers announced the launch date of their long awaited restaurant Galvin La Chapelle and Cafe De Luxe - opening in Spitalfields on 18th November.  Early word on the dining room is astonishingly good, so get those bookings in now.  Also keep an eye out for Sicilian restaurant Mennula, which had its soft launch this week and opens properly on 16th November.  And finally, Soho House's Dean Street Dining Room opens its doors on Saturday 21st November.

For more information on all of the above and a lot more, Hot Dinners gives you the low-down on all the new hot restaurants just opened and opening soon in our Coming Soon section.
