Pop-ups may be passé, but there’s still life in the supper club concept.
News reaches Hot Dinners of a hot new supper club, The Sitting Room, opening in the shadow of the Emirates Stadium in Highbury at the end of this month. Heading up the kitchen is Elisa Beynon, who last year had her first cookery book published, The Vicar’s Wife Cookbook. Beynon was the winner of the Waitrose Food Illustrated food writing competition and mentored by none other than Highbury neighbour Nigel Slater through the recipe-writing process. There's no news yet as to whether Slater will pop down the street to see how his protege is doing, but you never know.
Beynon’s fellow chefs are DJ Rob Mello (so the background music ought to be good) and pilot Marcel Emmanuel, who paid his way through flight training by working at a catering company in Dallas. And yes...we do happen to know the chefs involved, so we can truthfully say this is one foodie event worth trying to get into.
The first instalment of The Sitting Room will be on Saturday 30th January with staggered sittings from 7.30pm onwards. There’s room for up to 26 people in the main room as well as a smaller private dining room upstairs. For more information call the club’s co-ordinator Amy on 07976 158819.
