Healthy food restaurant Farmstand comes to Drury Lane, Covent Garden

Healthy food restaurant Farmstand comes to Drury Lane, Covent Garden

If you're looking for a dose of healthy food in Covent Garden, a new restaurant might be right up your street. Next door to Barrafina, Farmstand opens next week.

Coming from American Steven Novick, it takes its name from the similarly named roadside fruit, veg and produce stands from his hometown in Milwaukee. And like those, it has a big focus on nutritional foods. Everything will be wheat, gluten, dairy and refined sugar-free (apart from the desserts, made using unrefined organic coconut sugar).

Food will be available as "Ready To Go" boxes throughout the day - so if you fancy some food on the run for breakfast (or to bring back to the office), there's Coconut Yogurt topped with Seasonal Compote, Pumpkin Seeds & Cinnamon or The Farmstand Breakfast Box - including two free range eggs, roasted tomatoes and spinach.

There will be more boxes for lunch, including build-you-own - which apparently has "a potential 18,432 menu combinations".

As for dishes in the restaurant itself, there's:

  • ‘Grilled Harissa Chicken’ (marinated for 12 hours)
  • ‘Split Fava Bean, Butternut Squash & Cumin’.
  • ‘Charred Broccoli with Chilli and Garlic’
  • ‘Cinnamon Roasted Heritage Carrots’.

Drinks will be cold-pressed juices by Think Press, coffee by Workshop and Postcard of Mayfair teas. Or Crate Brewery beer and an organic gluten-free lager from Celia of Surrey if you need something stronger.

Farmstand opens on 26 January 2016 at 42 Drury Lane, Covent Garden, London WC2B 5AJ. It will open open seven days a week (11pm Mon-Sat and 8pm on Sunday). For more, follow them on Twitter @wearefarmstand.
