A relatively unprepossessing modern block just behind Broadgate is fast becoming one of the City's more interesting dining locations. It's already home to Francesco Mazzei's L'anima and new Japanese opening Chrysan - now the latest place to open its doors is HKK, the hotly-anticipated new opening from the Hakkasan group.
Chef Tong Chee Hwee will be in charge - he won a Michelin star for the original Hanway Place branch of Hakkasan (as well as being Executive Chef for the group in general). He's chosen to focus the food on banqueting. So there'll be a single tasting menu at both lunch and dinner. Lunch will be eight courses for £48 and dinner will be 15 courses for £95.
As for dishes - there could be Four treasures vegetables wrapped with Iberico ham, Lychee woodroasted Peking duck served with sesame pancakes, Dim sum trilogy of truffle har gau, panfried Szechuan dumpling, sour turnip puff, and Jasmine tea-smoked Wagyu beef. There will also be an alternative vegetarian menu with tea smoked vegetarian duck and Stuffed morchella in sha cha sauce.
As you might expect from any City joint, there'll be an extensive wine list (with flights) and cocktails - as well as a tea trolley. No, not the kind that serves up PG Tips and custard creams, but one with a range of infusions.
Design-wise, the kitchen will be the centrepiece with its wood-fired duck oven. There'll be 48 covers in the main dining room and a private dining room seating 10.
HKK will open on 5 December at Broadgate West, Worship Street, London EC2A 2DQ and will be open weekdays for lunch (12pm-2pm) and dinner (6pm-10pm), and Saturday evening. To book, call 0203 535 1888.
