They only opened their doors this summer but this weekend Hackney restaurant Raw Duck (an offshoot of Ducksoup in Soho) is facing imminent demolition. Seems that the nearby excavation for foundations for a Travelodge may have caused the building on Amhurst Road that the restaurant is in to become structurally unsound.
A council spokesperson told the Hackney Gazette tonight that: "Hackney Council has arranged for the urgent controlled demolition of 1-5 Amhurst Road following reports that the building has become structurally unsound and posed an immediate risk to public safety.
Earlier on Twitter, Raw Duck responded to news of their imminent demolition saying: "...the building site next door! Excavating too deep and our foundations collapsed! The council couldn't save our building." They went on to confirm that "We're so so sad to say that the building we are in cannot be saved and the council are demolishing it today. This is a sad day. RIP Rawduck."
