French Launderette pop-up raises over £3200 for Action Against Hunger

Sabrina Ghayour at the French LaunderetteWhile Thomas Keller has been wowing them with his French Laundry pop-up at Harrods, Hot Dinners popped across town last night to a slightly more affordable affair. Originally starting off as a joke on Twitter, the French Launderette quickly gathered steam into a full-blown supper club with Sabrina Ghayour at the helm.

Arriving outside the Chancery on a oddly balmy October evening, we joined the great and the good who had managed to grab a place at the event which cost only £2.50 (as opposed to the Harrods pop-up which was £250) a feat managed by the support of a large number of suppliers donating their wares.

And Sabrina had certainly done the supporters proud. The meal started with a homage to Keller himself with a salmon tartar cornet. The rest of the evening took in cauliflower and truffle soup, roast loin of pork wrapped in pancetta, mackerel carpaccio, hogget in a black garlic jus and an amazing black fig tart with lemon thyme creme Anglaise to round things off.

For the sum of £2.50 it was an amazing achievement, and it's a huge credit to everyone who helped out on the evening. Guests were asked to donate whatever they wanted over and above the cost of their seat at the table, so the evening ended with over £3200 donated to Action against Hunger, and a very happy @hotdinners2 who won a patisserie masterclass with Bruno Breillet in the raffle.

While there won't be another French Laundrette, you can expect many more supper clubs from Sabrina soon, with a Persian theme next on the agenda. We'd certainly recommend checking one out so keep an eye out for news of them in our events section.
