What: Fortnum & Mason
In a nutshell: Iconic food store expands to the City
Summing it all up: London's iconic food store, Fortnum & Mason will be opening in two spots in The Royal Exchange in the City - with a food hall and a restaurant and bar space.
The low-down
They may be a 311-year-old brand, but Fortnum & Mason are still moving with the times, opening a new restaurant and bar in the heart of the city at The Royal Exchange. "Exciting news!" tweeted their CEO, Ewan Venters, when the story broke.
So what exactly are they planning, you might ask? Well, this will be their second biggest store in London. They'll have a food hall - complete with gift and hamper selection. In addition - in a second spot in the REX they'll have a dining and bar area in the courtyard (taking over space vacated by D&D London's Grand Cafe) which will have room for 90 diners.
That main restaurant will be The Fortnum’s Bar & Restaurant at The Royal Exchange. An all day spot, they'll be serving up caviar, shellfish, and smoked salmon – hand-carved at the counter – along with light, raw, and vegan dishes. There'll be a Josper grill for produce like Fortnum’s exclusive Glenarm beef, plus the kind of nursery food they do so well like
Welsh Rarebit and Knickerbocker Glory.
