Fields all-day café to open on Clapham Common

fieldsplaceholderIt's all go in Clapham. Hard on the heels of new charcuterie and wine bar WC opening, comes a second new cafe to Clapham Common. Fields cafe, next to the skate park on Rookery Road, is from the same team behind M1LK in Balham.

With room for 30 inside and 80 outdoors on a heated terrace the cafe will serve an all day menu, and have its own roof garden and plant nursery where founder Julian Porter will grow his own produce and micro herbs, to be used in the café.

As for the food itself, there'll be a clear focus on keeping things local - using produce and suppliers from the area. And to be frank, the dishes which range in price from £5-£10 do sound rather interesting:

  • Coal-grilled sausage bao, kewpie, pickled shallot & iceberg
  • Peat-smoked mutton & beans, garden herb butter & sourdough
  • Smashed peas, hay-smoked goat’s curd, garden herbs & sourdough
  • Sticky rice pudding, apple, soured cream ice-cream & sake
  • Banana bread, Nesquick mascarpone and salted panella

Now we wouldn't claim to be particularly knowledgeable about coffee so hearing that Fields will be 'the first place in London to serve single origin filter coffee by Koppi brewed on FETCO machines; producing an incredibly nuanced and delicious filter coffee' sounds vaguely impressive, but we'll let you be the judge of that.

We're rather more partial to the sound of wild nettle pressé, homemade ginger beer, alcoholic slushies (of course), natural wines and local beers including Brixton Atlantic.

Fields will open in mid-late September at 2 Rookery Road, Clapham Common, SW4 9DD. Opening hours will be 8am to 10pm daily. Keep up with their news on Twitter @fieldscafe
