Fat Duck scores perfect 10 in 2010 Good Food Guide

Heston gets a perfect 10
Heston Blumenthal has made up for all the bad news earlier this year with a slew of positive stories, the latest of which is that, for the second year running, The Fat Duck has scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in the 2010 edition of The Good Food Guide. Coming a close second with 9/10 is Gordon Ramsay’s Hospital Road establishment. Guide Editor Elizabeth Carter said: ‘It’s been a tough year for all chefs, but these super chefs are at the top of their game and producing superlative food...It’s difficult to fault the Fat Duck’s impeccable standards and Gordon Ramsay’s modern French cooking is perfectly executed too.'

Restaurant Darwinism
OK – so we weren’t invited to the Courvoisier 500 meeting of foodie minds (invite probably got lost in the post, yes?) but we were intrigued by the mention in the Guardian of Peter Crossing’s concept of Restaurant Darwinism. Will the recession mean we see the survival of the fittest? Or will it simply be the survival of the most securely-funded restaurants? Answers on a postcard – no scrap that – talk about it in our forums instead.

And finally – if you are going to end up £23,500 in debt because of your education, better make it count. That’s why we’d recommend spending that student loan going to Champagne School. Sounds a lot more fun than a degree in Sports Science at Loughborough, doesn’t it?
