Camel ice-cream and exploding cakes at the Experimental Food Society

Experience a festival with a difference at the Experimental Food SocietyWant to try some camel ice cream? Yes, that's camel, not caramel. Or perhaps you've always fancied taking a bite out of a chocolate Eiffel Tower? Feeling particularly adventurous? How about some pan-fried lambs testicles? If all is making your mouth water, the festival with a difference from the Experimental Food Society could be right up your street.

The main focus of this off the wall event will be the exhibition at the Truman Brewery from 21 - 22 October 2011. Taking over the entire space, the exhibition will feature a wild array of crazy, experimental food incuding:

  • the aforementioned camel ice cream (with the selling point that camels only give milk when they are happy)
  • edible clothes, mosaics and chocolate architecture (including a gothic chocolate house)
  • an interactive "sonic drink installation" (nope, us neither)
  • a huge cake selection including an exploding cake and one fashioned to look like a dodo.

There's loads more at the event which culminates in a "wild" themed banquet at The Folly on Sunday. There, you'll be treated to food-related cabaret, be able to "eat out of the hand of Ray Mears" thanks to a bread sculpture of the survivalist's hand, more sonic food and many more surprises that the organisers will only reveal on the night.

The whole thing sounds both utterly barmy and fascinating at the same time and certainly makes a change from the usual festival spread.

Tickets for the exhibition are only £5 and it's £60 for the banquet. For more details and to book for the event, go to the Experimental Food Society website.
