Ex-Roganic chef Ben Spalding to run Roast Sunday pop-ups

ben spaldingIf you've been wondering what Roganic chef Ben Spalding's been up to since leaving his job as Head Chef there a few weeks ago, then we have the answer. He's teamed up with Burger Monday's Daniel Young to put on a new series of pop-up lunches called Roast Sunday.

There will be three events in total - May 20th, May 27th & June 10th - held at Beas of Bloomsbury's archway on Maltby Street. "We'll offer three sittings," Ben told us, "Midday, 2pm & 4pm with 40 seats at each sitting so 120 tickets will be available for each event. We could do much more but we want to keep it exclusive and not turn it into a mass banquet. The site has those lovely big doors- so if the sun wants to shine it will be perfect."

Tickets will be £30 for a roast and pudding. "We will be using the very best meat in the country for Roast Sunday," explains Ben. "I am going to be spending a lot of time sourcing the ingredients near my home in Kent, spending some time on the farms to ensure they know the exact quality I need for these events. The menu will change for each one and as for pudding, we are toying with the idea of serving it in the middle of each table so people share. I have lovely memories as a kid when my Dad would cook roast dinners for my family and friends - Sundays were just brilliant."

"It will be big hearty plates of food with all the ingredients cooked properly and with respect and served at their peak - not overcooked vegetables or dry meat or the one thing that I always hate when eating a Sunday roast out- a stingy amount of gravy."

The menu for each event will be different but Ben and Daniel will only highlight the key ingredient in advance, leaving the rest of the menu to be a surprise. "We don't want the events to get too restaurant-like," warns Ben. "We want to offer a great product, value for money but most importantly want it to be FUN!"

Drinks will be extra - the pair are working with some London breweries to bring an authentic beer to the events and will also offer wines by the glass and bottle and either champagne or a bellini and a soft drink.

Tickets go on sale this week.  Follow both @Sunday__Roast, @Benspalding1 & @youngandfoodish on Twitter for details on how to book.
