It seems as if barely a day goes by without news of some new pop-up or temporary bar or restaurant opening up in London and this week begins in similar fashion with the news that Kirin beer are sponsoring a pop-up restaurant on Brick Lane next month.
What's particularly interesting about the Kirin Ichiban Yatai restaurant are the people behind it. Yasuhiro Mineno (ex head chef of Nobu) and Shinya Ikeda, the joint owners and Head Chef of Yashin sushi & bar in Kensington have come up with the Japanese street-food menu. The Kushiage-style restaurant will serve up skewers of meat and vegetables with a bottle of Kirin Ichiban beer included for around £5 if you make a reservation online. There'll be over 10 combos including pork with Japanese Worcester sauce, marinated lamb with saikyo miso, asparagus with sea salt and lemon, pickled tomato and slightly hot green pepper with lemon.
Best of all, tucked away in the press release is the news that Mineno and Ikeda are working on a Kushiage restaurant opening in London, somewhere in central London in early 2012.So the Brick Lane pop-up will probably serve as a good rehearsal for the new restaurant.
The Kirin Ichiban Yatai will 'pop up' for one week only, August 3-8 2011, Wed-Sat 12pm - 11pm, Sun-Mon 12pm - 9.00pm at the Dray Walk Gallery, Dray Walk, Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane E1 6QL. To make a reservation visit http://www.kirinfirstcut.co.uk/how-to-book.php
