Draft House to open on Goodge Street in July

grainvgrape3Clearly the answer to our question in this week's newsletter as to whether Soho or Noho was hotter as far as restaurants are concerned seems to have been answered in part by today's hot news that Draft House is now opening up there too.

Owner Charlie McVeigh has secured his first central London site on the corner of Charlotte Street & Goodge Street which used to be the Northumberland Arms. The new Draft House will open in July serving up some of their now classic dishes such as Foot-Long Scratchings and Hamburger Specials The Yolk, The Smoke and The Poke.

"At times the negotiations felt like the making of Apocalypse Now but we’re in now and very excited," says Charlie. "There’s going to be a bigger emphasis on cask ale with beers from all our buddies at Camden, Kernel, Windsor & Eton and Sambrook’s – this tiny site will be a pocket-sized expression of London’s exploding beer and  food culture.”

We caught up with Charlie to find out some more details:

Why did you choose this site to be your first Central London location?

I have always loved the idea of running a tiny, old-fashioned central London pub but they almost never come up. When this one did we had to jump all over it.

Of course now that Dabbous and Bubbledogs will be your neighbours, makes you look like you're a fortune teller!

We're very excited to be in such hallowed company - but of course our new hotdog (the Kasekrainer) is the best.

Will there be anything that Goodge Street does that will be different to the other Draft Houses?

Yes - breakfast! We're working on some insane breakfast specials as I speak - watch this space.

Draft House will be at 43 Goodge Street W1T 1TA
