Given the column inches that they were able to fill with Heston's recent troubles, it was expected that the media would be on the look out for another restaurant scare. Quaglino's has certainly provided that, with the mysterious death of a diner from suspected food poisoning, after dining on the restaurant's famed oysters. The restaurant voluntarily shut during the initial investigation, reopening two days later.
It should be emphasised that, as yet, nothing has been revealed that actually connects the death of 50 year old Denise Martin with food poisoning by the popular venue. Whether that will change should become clear in the next few days.
In brighter news, The Good Food Guide has unveiled its nominees for Restaurant of the Year. The guide's readers vote for their favourite independent regional restaurants, with L'Etranger in South Kensington getting through to the final as the London hopeful. The guide editors will choose a winner at the Which? Awards ceremony on the 9th June.
Also in June, some of Italy's top chefs are coming over for Identita London, where they aim to showcase the country's food. As well as Italy's finest, London's will be on hand too with Angela Hartnett and Giorgio Locatelli representing the capital.
