Danish steakhouse MASH to open in Piccadilly

mash[Updated 29/10/12 with soft launch details]

The minute Brasserie Zedel opened its doors in Piccadilly, attention turned to who would take over the huge upstairs space that was once home to Marco Pierre White's Titanic Restaurant. Now we know it's going to be a mammoth steakhouse, courtesy of Danish brand MASH (short for Modern American Steak House).

So why might you be interested to see what a Danish company has done to the steakhouse concept? Well, it's been a huge success in its native country - offering an alternative to the molecular gastronomy and Nordic cuisine that have propelled the Danish restaurant scene to international attention. Plus London's the first place they've picked to open outside Denmark. The menu will feature premium steaks from around the world and a top wine list (MASH's founders are both sommeliers as well as restaurateurs). There'll also be a large bar with its own barfood menu and signature cocktails.

If they're sticking to the Danish model, you can expect steaks from America and Uruguay as well as Australian Wagyu. Starters range from grilled sweetbreads to garlicky snails and sides feature chilli fries and marrowbone. The wine list features various US wines including a sparkling wine from Schramsberg.

MASH London will open in November 3 at 81 Brewer Street, London, W1F 0RH. There's a soft launch from November 3rd to 12th with 50% off the food bill. Online booking has now opened at www.mashsteak.dk/restaurants/london/.
