Covent Garden restaurant Clos Maggiore wins coveted Wine Spectator Grand Award

clos-cellarLooking for a restaurant with a great wine list? Well Wine Spectator has just given six new restaurants a Grand Award - its highest accolade for a restaurant wine list. And one of them is Covent Garden restaurant Clos Maggiore (the rest are all in the US).

The award is given to restaurants whose wine list features 1,500 or more wines "with superior breadth and depth in many of the world’s classic wine-producing regions. They have also passed a rigorous inspection that evaluates the overall quality of their wine program, cellars, service, ambience and cuisine."

"Words cannot express how thrilled we all are to have picked up this incredibly prestigious award," sais the restaurant's owner Paul Corrett. "We work very hard as a team to produce our wine list...We have around 2000 selections on our wine list based on a cellar inventory of 35000 bottles and it is not unusual for us to change our list almost on a daily basis in order to get it just right."

Just 74 restaurants around the world have a Grand Award so this is a pretty big deal. Clos Maggiore joins one other UK restaurants on the list - The Greenhouse.
