Contemporary Danish restaurant Snaps & Rye comes to Westbourne Grove

Contemporary Danish restaurant Snaps & Rye comes to Westbourne GroveA new Danish restaurant is coming to the Westbourne Grove area as Snaps & Rye. Expect a very Danish, contemporary all-day menu.

What you need to know about Snaps & Rye

The name refers to drink and bread. The snaps specifically is a Danish drink specifically served with meals and rye refers to Danish ‘Smørrebrød’.

The chef, Trine Vennerstrøm Eriksen-Johnson, comes from Paternoster Chop House and trained at Restaurant No. 5 in Svendborg, Denmark. She'll be serving an all-day Danish menu. Breakfast will  feature ‘Øllebrød’, a traditional porridge dish made with dark rye bread, alongside a selection of patisseries including ‘Tebirkes’, puff pastries topped with poppy seed and filled with a sugar-marzipan paste. At lunch, that afrementioned Smørrebrød appears as an open face sandwich served on homemade organic rye bread. That  will have very Danish toppings like house-cured herring and ‘Rullepølse’, organic pork, which is seasoned, brined, pressed and then sliced thinly.  "The national dish of meatballs" will also be available as well as desserts including the Danish apple cake ‘Æblekage’.

The drinks list will be very Akvavit based with Akvavit cocktails and house-infused Akvavit snaps. For beer, naturally Danish beer Tuborg will be available while soft drinks will include ‘Cocio’ chocolate milk and ‘Iskilde Water’ from the Danish highlands.

There will be take-away too. Drinks and some of the dishes from the daily menu can be taken away and "local deliveries can also be arranged by Snaps & Rye’s specially commissioned Bullitt cargo bike."

Inside, expect a very Danish feel. It's being designed by owners Kell and Jacqueline Skött who also own two Kell Skött Haircare salons in the area and are branching out with this restaurant. Expect "Neutral colours, oak counters and reclaimed lye-treated pine flooring, accented by Danish design classics such as PH lamps by Louis Poulsen, an Arne Jacobsen clock and Kay Bojesen’s iconic monkey and soldier figures." The restaurant will seat 35, including some outdoor tables too.
